Since I was a child I’ve wanted to be a great actor. Not an actor entrenched in ego and fame, but one who captivates her audience; taking them on a wild journey where they might learn something about themselves. After graduating from Tisch School of The Arts at NYU I’ve had some luck in pursuing my dream. I’ve recurred on television series, appeared in national commercials, and performed in front of hundreds of people on stage. I think great actors, like great teachers, must be masters at connecting and relating to people. Although finding work as an actor can be difficult, I have found different ways to fulfill my desire to perform for and influence others. I’ve enjoyed working as a bartender and sales associate, which have brought me the opportunity to engage with people from all over the world. However, the most rewarding of jobs was teaching High School students about art at the Metropolitan Museum during an internship. I felt impassioned to get the students to connect with the material and I was thrilled to see these teens having fun while learning. I took this as an indication to explore the teaching world further. I began teaching ESL with the online school 51Talk a year and a half ago. I’ve taught over two thousand lessons, both group classes and one on one. My students have come from all walks of life and I’ve had the opportunity to teach a broad spectrum of lessons. I have experience teaching small children the alphabet, prepping college students for TOEFL/ IELTS exams, and training businessmen for their work presentations. My teaching style is conversation based, I find that building the student’s confidence in speaking is key to learning a new language. Due to my experience as an actress my greatest strength is in accent correction and pronunciation, it’s vital not only to speak but to be understood. I am a highly efficient and motivated person with strong communication and leadership skills. My schedule is flexible and I am always enthusiastic about meeting new people and learning about their culture.

He corrects all my wrong sentences. He has a very natural accent and he is very polite. Sergey - Russia Hello Everyone, My name is Sergey and I am from Russia. I have been taking classes with Stewart since October 2015. My goal is to get 7 band score at the speaking part of the IELTS exam so every lesson we try to practice speaking as much as possible. The speaking part consists of 3 sections. You should be able to speak on familiar topics such as your job or hobby (section 1), describe something(section 2) and answer more complicated questions (section 3). Usually, we begin our lesson with a short talk about things going and then discuss the topic of the lesson in detail so our lessons cover all 3 sections of the speaking parts of the IELTS. During the lessons, I write down new vocabulary but after every lesson Stewart send me a brief summary of a new vocabulary, my mistakes and corrections and an audio file with pronunciation. These audios are extremely useful because they help me to improve my pronunciation and memorize new words because I listen to them nearly every day. If I forgot the meaning of the word from the audio then I could revise it in the summary. One of the features of Stewart's lessons is that he gives interesting native speaker vocabulary. I guarantee that you are not going to find it in textbooks. On top of that, his lessons are fun :) and I really enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and Stewart's sense of humor :) Recently I took a mock IELTS exam and got 7 for speaking thus I achieved my objective. Nevertheless, I am not going to slack off and hope to improve my score at a real one. I think if you are an open-minded and easy-going person and know your goals then Stewart is your teacher. Your English will never be rusty :) Sincerely, Sergey Julia ChenJung - Taiwan My teacher is funny, I like talking with him and we create stories together. André - Brazil Stewart is THE MASTER!!! Hi, I'm Lindy - a TESOL trained teacher with a degree in English and Linguistics. I love language, travel and talking to the world's citizens! I have taught business, general and IELTS English; kids and adults; beginners and advanced. I'm a New Zealander who has been travelling the world for the last 20 years, living in the UK, Australia, Vietnam and France, but I have now returned home to live in NZ and raise my 2 boys in the South Pacific sunshine! I taught English for 3 years in Hanoi, Vietnam and for 1 year in Paris, France. In the UK, I worked in Marketing and did various copywriting and editing assignments: websites, promotional material, blogs, and professional documents. I have been teaching online for almost 4 years and teaching, writing and people are my passions. I am a very relaxed person who is interested in the different lives of people around the world. I love outdoor and simple living, trail running, business brainstorming, meditation, transformational and alternative ideas and philosophy. I can help with grammar, expression, fluency and correcting those persistent errors. I love grammar - but also a really good chat - so I can help with both. Anyone can speak another language - you just need to have the right motivation and to be brave enough to try!! Let's go!
My name is Karolina and I have been teaching English to both children and adults for over 24 years in various countries and organizations. With a great deal of blood, sweat and tears and of course, love, I also built my own online English language training company which had always been a dream and goal of mine. Parallel to that, I joined Verbling 5 years ago and continue to love working here! My love and passion for the English language has been a constant in my life and has over the years developed into a deep interest to help as many language learners reach their learning goals as possible. As an ambassador’s child, I had the privilege and joy of visiting and living in a number of incredible countries and living the life of a nomad! Being born in Switzerland and moving to Canada at the age of 3, English quickly became my native language. My parents, realizing that English would not only be an asset but a necessity growing up in various countries, chose to enroll me in American International schools throughout my school education. I have rich and beautiful memories of growing up in South Africa, Greece and as a young adult moving to Germany and then later The Netherlands. Over the course of these years, my love of the English language only grew and deepened, and at a very young age I embarked on the path that would eventually lead me to where I am today: a teacher who truly loves what she does! As a teenager, I first fell in love with the language through poetry and literature, immersing myself in the beauty of words that I felt could almost magically create new worlds and capture feelings. This led me to my own experimentations with poetry and writing which to this very day are things I enjoy dearly and are very important to me. I was fascinated at how language allowed people to communicate with one another, brought people closer together and managed to bridge incredible gaps. As time went by and I began moving from country to country I also very quickly understood how valuable English was as a language and as a tool. Being the only common language everyone spoke in many of the countries I visited, I realized just how incredibly important it was to have a grasp on the language if I wanted to truly communicate with and understand others. Fast forward twenty years and this is more vital than ever before. In a world led by globalization and one where the international language of commerce is English, having the ability to speak English is truly no longer an asset but rather a necessity. As a young adult in Germany, I came to the realization that I wanted to turn my passion for the English language into a career. From that moment on, I invested my time and energy into attaining my goal of becoming an English teacher. I took my first step by gaining my CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) which then led me to my first teaching positions at language schools in Berlin. Over the years I taught both General and Business English in various companies including Wall Street School of English, Ebay Germany, Jaguar and Thyssenkrupp among others. I soon followed my certificate with an Advanced Diploma in Applied Linguistics and eventually a Masters in Education (Applied Linguistics), solidifying and expanding my knowledge on the foundations of the English language, how it developed over the years and how we can as teachers successfully help others learn the language. I continue to further educate myself at every opportunity, most recently completing the “Foundations of Virtual Instruction” course through the University of California. I realize that the face of education is rapidly changing and moving ever more towards online learning; more accessible and flexible learning. It is a trend that I believe will continue to develop over time, which is why I chose to focus on expanding my online teaching career. The other equally important reason for moving into online teaching was my interest in and desire to work with people from around the globe- what an incredible opportunity! Finally, I find myself after many years back in Greece realizing my long-term dream of starting my own business where I can share with others my knowledge of and passion for the English language. Nothing brings me more joy and fulfilment than helping others attain their language learning goals and supporting them through the often challenging but always exciting path of learning a new language. I always strive to make each students’ learning experience a unique one; one filled with support, patience and encouragement. I have had the fortune of working with truly wonderful individuals who have inspired me and continue to inspire me, and who remind me- though I never need reminding!-just why I became an English teacher. I hope that we will have the opportunity to meet and work together very soon. Sincerely, Karolina Thomoglou PLEASE NOTE: Last minute and same day cancellations will NOT be refunded unless there is an emergency situation.
